“MORE” by Mark Osborne
This short film, rereleased by Wholphin, was an Academy Award Nominee in 1998. The film has garnered a large number of awards besides this, including a special jury prize at Sundance (see Wiki page for more). With the Oscar’s creeping up on us, I thought it would be a good time to throw out a few of the best short films that have received recognition from the institution that often favors The Bland.
This is not The Bland; this is actually quite wonderful. The stop-motion animation in this film is fluid and beautifully constructed, and really proves why the short film categories at festivals are unfairly neglected. If only we could go back to the days when newsreels, shorts, and cartoons were always played before features…wouldn’t that just make life a little better. Wouldn’t you have liked this to screen just before Synecdoche, NY or The Wrestler. A film like this could really set the tone for a screening and introduce film-goers (who are interested in art) a chance to see something new and different. Oh well, maybe I should just quit acting like I’m 60.
